Goal Zero solar panels and battery banks are great for camping and survival! |
Strangely, many survival/preparedness enthusiasts typically tend to neglect/overlook including quality sources of alternative power in their survival gear or survival kits. They may include a hand-crank radio or flashlight in their survival kit or bug out bag, but that is often the extent of their "alternative energy" preps. Sadly, alternative energy solutions are terribly neglected and are typically not included in the majority 72 hour kit or bug out bag kit lists or preparedness plans. We at E2S feel strongly that is a terrible yet completely avoidable mistake.
Just to clarify, when we refer to "alternative energy" on this blog, we aren't referring to it the way the media or environmental activists generally do. To be honest... in this context we aren't terribly concerned about the environment, climate change, your carbon footprint and polar bears. That may sound terrible, but let's be honest... if you ever find yourself in a real life or death survival situation (God forbid), the environment is going to be the last thing you are worried about. The environment is going to quickly tumble to the bottom of your list of priorities. When every waking moment is spent trying to regulate your core body temperature, staying hydrated, staying nourished, stay dry, safe, rested, comfortable, etc., the polar bears tend to quickly become the least of your concerns. We do care about being good stewards of this planet, but that's not going to be the emphasis of this blog. There are plenty of other blogs out there for you to get your "environmental fix" from.
On this blog we plan on discussing all sorts of "off grid" energy solutions for the purpose of allowing you to keep your family warm/cool, illuminated, fed, watered, clean, entertained, comforted, safe, secure and more! We are interested in solar, wind, micro-hydro, wood gasification, rocket stoves, thermal mass heaters and more! We are interested in "off grid" energy solutions that will keep your home running like "business as usual" despite a "grid down" power outage that will affect anyone tied to it. Whether a car accident takes your power out for a few hours, an ice storm takes your power out for a few days or a hurricane or tornado takes your power out for a few weeks,
God bless your little heart if you want to drive a Prius or a Volt to save the planet, but that is not what this blog is about. This blog isn't about saving the planet. It's about saving your ass in the event the grid goes down. So let's learn together by sharing ideas, products, innovations, concepts, designs and more all revolving around off grid and alternative energy in a preparedness/survival context. Please feel free to share anything with us related to this topic and we promise to do the same!
